The "CRP" site is a series of locations throughout Traill and Steele Counties.  "CRP" also known as Conservation Reserve Program, is a voluntary federal program that encourages farmers to take environmentally sensitive land out of agricultural production and plant species that improve environmental quality.  It is primarily composed of mid-tall grass prairie.

"Marsh" sites include locations that are largely "unused" in the counties of Traill and Steele.  These locations typically flood during the spring and retain water throughout the spring and summer.  Often, these locations are inundated with vegetation such as cattails.  State permissions were obtained to collect mosquitoes on Waterfowl Production Areas.

The "Golden Lake" site consists of locations surrounding South Golden Lake located in Steele County, North Dakota.  The lake itself is approximately 332 acres with a max depth of 17 ' (average 11.6') with 3.8 miles of shoreline.  A seasonal resort and campground with a public beach is available, private properties/cabins surround most of the lake.
