North Dakota State Science & Engineering Fair Finalists Head to ISEF

The North Dakota State Science & Engineering Fair was held Thursday and Friday, April 5-6, 2018 at the UND Campus.  From across the state, 187 students, 7th-12th grade, attended the 68th annual event held at the UND Memorial Union.  Junior and senior division students competed for numerous Special Awards in categories including Agriculture,  Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Geoscience, Energy, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, Medicine,  Physics, and Behavioral Science. Twelve senior division students will advance to the International Science & Engineering Fair to be held May 13-18, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA.  In the junior division, the top four finishers in each region of the state received awards.

Thursday afternoon was filled with activities in departments across campus, including: pathology, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, EERC, Computational Research, Space Studies and Teaching & Learning.  Denny L. Laudal was the guest speaker at the Thursday evening banquet at the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.  Mr. Laudal was the Principal Engineer at the EERC, received his M.S. in Chemical Engineering from UND and his B.A. in Chemistry and Biology from Concordia College. He is considered a leading authority on mercury measurement in flue gas.
